VR Voyage Rondvaart combines a traditional boat tour with virtual reality, letting you see the city as it looks today while stepping into historically accurate recreations of 17th-century Amsterdam at seven points along the route. The covered boat departs from Leidsekade, carrying up to 24 guests through the canal ring with a friendly host on board to guide the experience.
Past and Present on the Water
For most of the journey, you can simply watch the canal houses and bridges pass by while listening to an audio tour in Dutch or English. At specific locations, you put on a VR headset synced to your surroundings — suddenly the waterfront shifts to show trading posts, a bustling harbour filled with ships, the old city walls, and the neighbourhoods where Amsterdam's elite once lived. The animations run about fifteen minutes total, woven into a narrative that connects what you see on screen with what sits just beyond the boat's windows.
Onboard Comfort
The boat is fully covered with a retractable roof for rainy days, and seating is comfortable enough for the duration. A welcome drink is included with your ticket; after that, beer, wine, prosecco, and soft drinks are available to order from the onboard bar, along with snacks.
